Eset antivirus developers have announced that the Stantinko botnet is actively distributing Monero (XMR) cryptocurrency mining software. YouTube is used as the main distribution channel.
Stantinko is an old botnet launched back in 2012 and focused mainly on users from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. According to Eset, it has already infected about 500,000 devices.
Malicious software launches hidden mining on the victim's computer processor and extracts the anonymous cryptocurrency Monero.
