US sets new unemployment record at 26.5 million people

According to the US Department of Labor over the past week, 4.43 million applications for unemployment benefits were submitted. Thus, unemployment in the states, taking into account the able-bodied population, has already amounted to 16%, which equals 26.5 million people.
It is noted that the number of applications for unemployment benefits has begun to decline over the past two weeks. Thus, 5.2 million and 4.43 million were received, that is, the peak of dismissals was three weeks ago, when 6.87 million Americans immediately applied for state support.
US authorities expect the economy to recover soon and people will return to work in May after the lifting of quarantine measures. At the same time, the USA continues to lead the world in the number of coronavirus infected.
